Travel, tourism, and hospitality are important industries in the Central Massachusetts economy. Tourism represents the third largest industry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. More than 3,220 people are employed in tourism-related jobs in Central Massachusetts alone, accounting for a payroll of over $90 million annually. Travelers spend nearly $500 million in the Central Massachusetts region, resulting in local tax receipts of $10.8 million. Tourist expenditures include everything from lodging, entertainment, dining, transportation, and fuel; local businesses rely on the business of visitors to the region.

The mission of Discover Central Massachusetts is to market Central Massachusetts as a competitive destination for travel and tourism; as well as conventions, meetings, and events. Worcester, which is located in the center of the region, is the state’s second-largest city, and the second-largest city in New England.

The vision of Discover Central Massachusetts is to establish Central Massachusetts as a destination that visitors recommend to friends and family; meeting and event planners prefer as a location for their events; residents are proud of; and investors seek out for development opportunities.
