CCPA COMPLIANCE

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
Visit Widget Interactive Kiosk

CCPA went into effect on January 1st 2020, so we were hard at work in early December 2019 adding the necessary changes to ensure compliance across all client widgets and apps.  Here’s what we added per the specific requirements of CCPA:

  • Updated Privacy Policy: https://visitwidget.com/privacy-policy/
  • User Data Export: All client widgets and *branded mobile apps have been updated to allow users to export their data to an easily understandable and portable format.

User Data Deletion: All client widget and *branded mobile apps have been updated to allow users to delete their account and all respective information obtained.

Visit Widget Interactive Kiosk

Widget Disclosure Prompt, Data Export & Deletion:

When accessing any client widget directly via the subdomain for the first time, a new cookie disclosure prompt is displayed in the bottom right hand corner, informing the user that we use cookies to optimize the experience.

As a logged in user on any client widget, you can now click on your name in the top right hand corner of the screen and navigate to your profile. On the profile detail view, there are 2 new options available: Delete your account & Download your user data.

Mobile Apps Disclosure Prompt, Data Export & Deletion:

As per the requirements of CCPA, the apps were updated to incorporate a privacy disclosure that must be accepted by users before any data collection occurs.  This was accomplished in the Visit Widget branded mobile apps by restricting the initial tutorial slider shown on first launch to require user acceptance before continuing to access any other area of the app, and the initial tutorial cannot be skipped.  The initial tutorial also now includes a disclosure about privacy with links to the terms and privacy policy.

Additionally, app users are now able to perform the following actions, by navigating to the App Info section and selecting one of the 3 options presented under User Data Collection:

  1. Opt-out of user data collection
  2. Request deletion of your user data
  3. Request an export of your user data

Notes: Most of Visit Widget’s clients are Government Organizations and/or Non-Profit Entities, which based on our understanding, are not subject to the requirements of CCPA.  Further, Visit Widget does not sell any data collected in our systems. However, with recent trends in privacy laws both internationally and domestically, we decided to invest the time and resources to ensure compliance across our platform for all clients and end users.

*If you do not see the new functionality described above in the branded iOS app we developed for your organization, please contact your account manager.  Apple will not allow us to push updates to client apps that are not housed within their own Apple Developer Account, but we’ve successfully transferred about 50 clients apps and can facilitate/expedite the process.
